Veteran Team to Lead Police Board

Emil Kolb, Regional Chairman of Peel, was re-elected as Chair of the Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board at its first meeting of the year, held January 25, 2008. Joining him as Vice-Chair is Mr. Jim Murray, the second longest tenured Board member, and also a previous Vice-Chair of the Board.

“We are very fortunate to have an experienced and dedicated Board that works extremely well with our Chief and his senior management,” says Mr. Kolb. “It is a pleasure to work with my Board colleagues and I greatly appreciate their support.”

Mr. Kolb says, “Our Board knows we have a first-class police service. Despite a challenging year, I am very encouraged by what we’ve accomplished, and I’m looking forward to working with all parties to continue to advance our ability to serve the public.”

Mr. Murray, a well-known businessman and former Citizen of the Year for the City of Mississauga was first appointed to the Board in 1997. After a year’s absence, he was re-appointed in 2004 and begins his second stint as Vice-Chair.

“It’s a privilege to serve again as Vice-Chair,” says Mr. Murray. “The sole focus of the Board, the Chief and the entire police service is the safety and security of our community. I’m glad to be part of a great team effort intent on delivering such an important public service.”

Both Mr. Kolb and Mr. Murray acknowledged the dedicated service of Mr. Ralph Hunter, who remains on the Board but chose not to continue as Vice-Chair.

“Mr. Hunter was involved in every important issue we had last year, including stellar work as Chair of our Bargaining Committees,” says Mr. Kolb. “We’re all pleased that he will continue his contribution as a member of the Board.”

The Peel Police Services Board consists of seven members. Mr. Kolb is an appointee of the Regional Council of Peel as is Councillor Frank Dale from Mississauga and Mayor of Brampton, Susan Fennell. The provincial appointees are Mr. Murray, Mr. Hunter and Ms. Cheryl Jamieson. Rounding out the membership is Ms. Preet Kang who was appointed as a member of the public by Regional Council.
