Veteran Police Executive to Retire

(BRAMPTON) – Deputy Chief Dan McDonald, a 35-year veteran of the Peel Regional Police, has announced he will be retiring effective August 15, 2014, says Emil Kolb, Chair, Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board. Mr. Kolb says Deputy Chief McDonald was appointed Acting Deputy Chief as of June, 2006 and was confirmed in that position in April, 2008.

"Deputy Chief McDonald has been a voice of experience and professionalism in his role as Deputy Chief," says Mr. Kolb. "Throughout his career, regardless of rank or responsibilities, he has exemplified the qualities that have made the Peel Regional Police a leader in policing in Canada."

Chief Jennifer Evans says: 'Dan has been a strong and effective leader as Deputy Chief. He has been consistently supportive of our members and deserves every recognition for the difference he has made in the police service and in our community."

"It has been a real pleasure working with the men and women of this great organization for the past 35 years," says Deputy Chief McDonald. "I leave the police service wishing it nothing but the best and the brightest of futures. While I look forward to the next stage of my life, I will truly miss being a member of the Peel Regional Police."

Mr. Kolb says the Board recently met to discuss the process to select a successor to Deputy Chief McDonald. It has determined that the search will be among internal candidates only and it anticipates naming the new Deputy Chief by the end of September, 2014 thus ensuring a timely and orderly transition.

The Peel Regional Police is the second largest municipal police service in Ontario, providing police services to the cities of Brampton and Mississauga and, under contract, to Pearson International Airport. It is led by Chief J. Evans, recently elected President of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, supported by an Executive team comprised of three Deputy Chiefs of Police and an Associate Administrator.
