Streetsville Resident to Join the Peel Police Services Board

BRAMPTON, ON, Aug. 19 /CNW/ - Mr. Ralph Hunter, a lifelong resident of the Region of Peel, is the newest appointee to the Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board. Mr. Hunter, who was born in Brampton but has resided in Streetsville for the past 43 years, was appointed to the Board by the provincial government on July 24, 2003.

He replaces Mr. Jim Murray, whose term on the Board expired on June 30, 2003. "I'm extremely excited about this opportunity to serve the residents of our community," says Mr. Hunter. "I've watched Streetsville, the City and the entire Region grow, and with it I've watched the Peel Regional Police evolve into a modern, professional police service in which we all take great pride. I look forward to applying my knowledge of our community, and my experience as a businessman, to help meet the challenges ahead."

"I'm very pleased to have Mr. Hunter join the Board," says Mr. Emil Kolb, Chair of the Board. "Knowing his background, especially his community involvement, I am confident he will make a very effective Board member." Mr. Hunter is a former owner and operator of a general insurance broker first established 40 years ago in the City of Mississauga, and is past president of the Mississauga Insurance Brokers Association. Since 1998, he has been a partner in a firm that provides financial services and estate planning.

Mr. Hunter has extensive community involvement. A member of the Streetsville Rotary Club, he is a past president and is a Paul Harris fellow. He has served on a number of Streetsville committees and boards, and is currently Vice Chairman of the Mississauga Living Arts Board of Directors. His community work was recognized when he was awarded the Queen's Jubilee Award in 2003.

The Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board is comprised of seven members, three of whom are Regional Councillors, three members appointed by the provincial government, and a private citizen appointed by Regional Council.
