PSB - Appoints New Vice-Chair
(BRAMPTON) - Gael Miles, a long time Brampton and Regional Councillor was elected Vice-Chair of the Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board by her colleagues at the meeting held September 26, 2003.
Councillor Miles replaces the previous Vice-Chair, Mr. J. Murray, whose term on the Board expired earlier this year.
"I'm thrilled and extremely pleased by the support and confidence my fellow Board members have shown in me," says Councillor Miles. "Throughout my professional and political life, public safety and security have been an integral part of my activities, and achieving this position is truly an accomplishment that I will treasure."
Councillor Miles says her priorities as Vice-Chair will continue to be support for more front-line police officers, leading to greater police visibility and presence; the targeting of dangerous and aggressive driving; enhanced police response to priority calls; and crime prevention.
"Councillor Miles has always been a strong member of the team," says Mr. E. Kolb, Chair of the Board. "This is a natural step up for her to assume the Vice-Chair role."
Councillor Miles was first elected to Regional Council in 1991. She was appointed to the Board in January 1999.
The Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board is comprised of seven members, three of whom are Regional Councillors, three who are citizens appointed by the Government of Ontario, and a private citizen appointed by Regional Council. The Board is the civilian governance body for the Peel Regional Police, the second largest municipal police service in Ontario.
