Police Services Board Names Acting Chief
(BRAMPTON) – Deputy Chief Paul Tetzlaff, a 37 year veteran of the Peel Regional Police, has been named Acting Chief of Police, effective March 31, 2012, says Emil Kolb, Chair of the Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board. Mr. Kolb says Acting Chief Tetzlaff will assume command of the police service given the pending retirement of Chief Metcalf and until the announcement of new Chief of Police.
"Paul is a proven leader and someone who has the full confidence of the Board," says Mr. Kolb. "His mandate is to continue to move the organization forward during the coming months including advancing some key initiatives and projects."
Acting Chief Tetzlaff joined the Peel Regional Police in 1975, and has served in progressively senior roles, including being named Deputy Chief in 2006 and then adding the duties of Chief Administrative Officer a year later. This has provided Acting Chief Tetzlaff with a comprehensive understanding of both the operational and administrative facets of the organization says Mr. Kolb.
Mr. Kolb says the Board will consider the process to select the next Chief of Police commencing in April, 2012. Significant developments with respect to the process will be made public as appropriate.
The Peel Regional Police is the second largest municipal police service in Ontario, with approximately 2,800 personnel. It provides police services to the cities of Brampton and Mississauga, and under contract, to Pearson International Airport.
