Police Services Board Announces Ratified Contracts

(BRAMPTON)– The tentative deal reached between the Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board and the Peel Regional Police Association for both the uniform and civilian contracts has now been ratified, says Mr. Ralph Hunter, Vice-Chair and Chair of the Board’s Bargaining Committee.

Mr. Hunter says the Board was notified yesterday of the results of the vote by the membership, with 87 per cent of the Uniform members and 76 per cent of the Civilian members voting in favour of a four-year contract renewal, which would expire on December 31, 2010.

“I’m very pleased that by the strong showing of support for this contract,” says Mr. Hunter. “In the Board’s view, this is really a win-win for both sides, and also provides for financial stability in that we can plan our budgets with certainty over the next three years.”

Mr. Hunter commends the PRPA bargaining committee for the professional and constructive manner in which it approached discussions.

“It was not easy for any of us, but we worked diligently and I believe achieved a settlement that is fair and certainly works to the benefit of the community we serve,” says Mr. Hunter.

Mr. Hunter says the deal will maintain 1st Class Constables in Peel equal to the highest paid in the province, and also provides for a number of benefit improvements.
