Police Board Election Yields a Familiar Face
(BRAMPTON)– Just over a month after being re-elected as Chairman of the Region of Peel, Emil Kolb made it a double-header, as he was re-elected Chair of the Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board. The election was held on January 19, 2007, at the first annual meeting of the Board. It marks Mr. Kolb’s 12th straight year as Chair.
“I am honoured and gratified by the support of my colleagues on the Board,” says Mr. Kolb. “We’re fortunate in having such a dedicated and focused group of individuals on our Board, and I’m looking forward to working with them as we meet the challenges that lie ahead.”
Elected as Vice-Chair was Ralph Hunter, a lifelong resident of Peel, having been born in Brampton and residing in Streetsville for the past 45 years. A member of the Board since July, 2003, Mr. Hunter has extensive community involvement and among other activities, is currently Chairman of the Mississauga Living Arts Centre Board of Directors.
“I have enjoyed my time on the Board and have learned to appreciate even more the role of police in our society,” says Mr. Hunter. “I feel privileged to have the chance to serve as Vice-Chair and to work with our Chair, my colleagues, and our Chief and the police service to ensure we remain a safe and secure community.”
Both Mr. Kolb and Mr. Hunter acknowledged the dedicated service of Councillor Carmen Corbasson, who completed six years on the Board in December, 2006.
“Carmen was everything you wanted in a Board member,” says Mr. Kolb. “She was hard working and not afraid to tackle the tough issues, while remaining throughout a supporter of our police service and our community.”
The January meeting also saw the introduction of Councillor Frank Dale as a member of the Board. Councillor Dale was elected by Regional Council to replace Councillor Corbasson. Joining Councillor Dale as Regional Council appointees were Mayor Susan Fennell, and Ms. Preet Kang, who are commencing their second terms. Membership of the Board is rounded out by Ms. Cheryl Jamieson and Mr. Jim Murray, both provincial appointees.
