Peel's Next Chief to Come from the Ranks
(BRAMPTON) – The sixth Chief of Police for the Peel Regional Police will be a serving member of the police service, says Emil Kolb, Chair of the Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board. Mr. Kolb says the Board made the decision to seek internal candidates at its meeting of April 27, 2012.
"The day after we hired Chief Metcalf in 2006, we agreed with the Chief that succession planning for his position would commence immediately," says Mr. Kolb. "The plan has been monitored annually, and the Board is fully confident we have a number of individuals that can step up to the top position."
Mr. Kolb says the priority will be to select an individual with the right balance of skills and experience to match the current needs of the organization. Mr. Kolb says another essential consideration will be to ensure the incoming Chief understands and can react to the changing dynamics of the Region.
"The Region of Peel continues to grow and our community is perhaps the most diverse in the entire country," says Mr. Kolb. "That diversity is a positive. However, it also adds to the complexity of delivering many of our public services, including police."
Mr. Kolb says that the Board will follow a rigorous process in selecting a new Chief of Police and anticipates that an announcement will be made in early Autumn.
The Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board is the governing body for the Peel Regional Police. It is comprised of seven members.
