Peel Police Services Board Welcomes New Member, Elects New Chair

BRAMPTON – Brampton resident Len Carby is the newest member of the Peel Police Services Board. Appointed by the Region of Peel, Mr. Carby was sworn in on April 24, 2023 for a 4-year term. Meanwhile, at the April 21, 2023 Board meeting, Regional Chair Nando Iannicca was elected Chair of the Peel Police Services Board, while Sumeeta Kohli continues as Vice-Chair. Both the Chair and Vice-Chair are elected by their Board colleagues.   

Biographies

Len Carby:

Len Carby is a Financial Service Professional, IG Wealth Management with over a decade of financial planning experience with professionals and business owners.

With over 20 years of community service in Canada and abroad, Len is driven to serve his community by bringing practical and innovative social leadership. He understands the challenges and opportunities facing the Region of Peel, and desires to position the growing region to confront them by offering new ideas to make his community a caring, inclusive, and welcoming place for its diverse residents. 

Len is a member of the Board of Governors and the Strategic Development Committee of the United Way Greater Toronto (UWGT) and Co-Chaired the Anti-Racism Advisory Committee (ARAC) for the Peel Regional Police and Ontario Human Right Commission.

Other community roles Len has occupied include: Mississauga Mayor’s Black Caucus (now Black Caucus Alliance); PDSB-We Rise Together Committee; Peel Regional Police Community Advisory Council, past Chair of the UWGT-Black Community Advisory Council and; founding Director of the Federation of Black Canadians.

Nando Iannicca:

On December 8, 2022, Regional Chair Nando Iannicca was re-appointed to serve as a Regional Council representative on the Regional Municipality of Peel Police Service Board for the 2022-2026 council term.

Chair Iannicca formerly held the position of Regional Councillor for Ward 7 in Mississauga. He served on numerous boards and committees during his time as Councillor. He is also the proud recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Award for 25 years of volunteer service on such agencies as the Trillium Hospital Foundation, Red Cross, Mississauga Symphony and the Mississauga Food Bank. Nando and his wife Ann Marie are the proud parents of sons Damian and Francis and the family lives in the Huron Park community in Mississauga.

Chair Iannicca is the head of Regional Council and the Chief Executive Officer of the Regional Municipality of Peel. The Chair represents Peel and its residents on matters of Regional interest, provides leadership to Regional Council and presides over Regional Council meetings. The Chair champions Peel’s interests with residents, businesses and other levels of government.

Sumeeta Kohli:

Sumeeta is a seasoned marketing expert and business leader with more than two decades of experience in the marketing, innovation, technology, and community service sectors. She founded Glocal Marketing, a marketing and events management firm that co-creates innovative marketing and branding solutions for global clients across various industries. As an active community leader, Sumeeta leverages her expertise in Board governance, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and arts and culture to drive impactful change. She serves as a Director on the board of Destination Ontario, a premier tourism organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the tourism industry in Ontario. Sumeeta also sits on the Board of Directors of the Mississauga Arts Council.   

Appointed Vice-Chair of the Peel Police Services Board in 2023, Sumeeta is also the current Chair of the Board’s Governance and Human Rights Committee. Her unwavering passion for diversity and inclusion, along with her deep-seated commitment to supporting the community, makes Sumeeta a true community leader.
