Peel Police Service Board Appoints Chair and Vice-Chair
BRAMPTON – Mississauga Councillor for Ward 10, Sue McFadden, was elected as Chair of the Peel Police Services Board at its January Board meeting. At the same meeting, Norma Nicholson was re-elected Vice-Chair. Both the Chair and Vice-Chair are elected by their colleagues at the first Board meeting each year.
McFadden was appointed to serve as a Regional Council representative on the Board on January 1, 2017 for a period of 2 years. She was first elected as Councillor in 2006 and is now in her third term. Prior to that, she served as Trustee for the Peel District School Board for six years.
“I am humbled and honoured to be elected Chair of the Peel Police Services Board. I want to thank my colleagues on the Board for their confidence and support, and for allowing me the opportunity to serve in this important role,” said McFadden. “I look forward to an exciting year ahead as we work collaboratively with my colleagues on the Board, the Chief and the police service to ensure the men and women of Peel Regional Police are provided with the tools and support to best protect and serve the residents of Peel.”
Throughout her time as an elected official, Chair McFadden has held positions of leadership on various committees including Safe City Mississauga, Traffic Safety Council and Emergency Services. She also serves as Chair of the City of Mississauga’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee. McFadden is actively involved in the community, having served as President of the Mississauga-Meadowvale Rotary Club where she is also a Paul Harris Award winner. She is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal for her dedication to community service.
Norma Nicholson is a published author, educator and youth expert with a special interest in working with at-risk youth. She has had an illustrious career as a Registered Nurse, as demonstrated by being the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions from the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario and the community.
The Peel Police Services Board is the governing body for the Peel Regional Police which provides police services to the cities of Brampton and Mississauga, and under contract, to Pearson International Airport.
