Peel Police Service Board Announces Re-election of Chair and Vice-Chair for 2025 and Welcomes Matt Mahoney’s Return

BRAMPTON – During its January Board meeting, the Peel Police Service Board re-elected Regional Chair Nando Iannicca as Chair and Sumeeta Kohli as Vice-Chair for the 2025 calendar year. These leadership appointments underscore the Board's commitment to advancing community safety and well-being across the region.
The Board also welcomed the return of Mississauga Councillor and Deputy Mayor Matt Mahoney, who was re-appointed to the Board by Regional Council. Councillor Mahoney’s return brings a wealth of experience and a steadfast commitment to serving the residents of Peel.
Chair Nando Iannicca, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Regional Municipality of Peel, has consistently demonstrated his dedication to public service through his leadership roles and extensive volunteerism. His work with organizations like the Trillium Hospital Foundation, the Red Cross, the Mississauga Symphony, and the Mississauga Food Bank reflects his commitment to the community.
Expressing appreciation for his re-election, Chair Iannicca stated, "It is a tremendous privilege to continue serving as Chair of the Peel Police Service Board. I am deeply committed to working closely with Chief Duraiappah and the leadership team at Peel Regional Police to ensure community safety remains our top priority. Together, we will strive to build trust, strengthen partnerships, and enhance the well-being of all residents in Peel."
Vice-Chair Sumeeta Kohli, a recognized leader in marketing and business innovation, has over 20 years of experience across marketing, technology, and community service sectors. Having previously served as Chair of the Governance and Human Rights Committee, she demonstrated a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and the well-being of Peel’s communities. "It is a true honor to serve as Vice-Chair of the Peel Police Service Board," said Vice-Chair Kohli. "I am deeply committed to fostering collaboration and supporting initiatives that ensure the safety and security of our diverse communities."
Councillor Matt Mahoney brings extensive community and private-sector experience to his role on the Board. As a lifelong Mississauga resident and the city's Deputy Mayor, his active involvement in various regional and municipal committees, including the Environmental Action Committee, Accessibility Advisory Committee, and the Credit Valley Conservation Authority, highlights his dedication to public service."I am honored to return to the Peel Police Service Board and have deep respect and admiration for Peel Regional Police and the challenging work they do every day.
