Peel Police Board Selects Successful Provider for Equity Audit

BRAMPTON, ON – Following a competitive procurement process, the Peel Police Services Board has selected the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion (CCDI) as the successful vendor to conduct an independent employment equity and diversity professional audit.

“The announcement of CCDI as the successful service provider for the Board’s equity audit is a significant step forward as we ensure our police service reflects the entire community it serves,” said Peel Police Board Chair Amrik Singh Ahluwalia. “The tremendous experience and qualifications of the CCDI will help the Board and the Peel Regional Police find new innovative recruiting ideas to ensure Policing becomes a profession of choice in Peel.”

In collaboration with Peel Regional Police Chief Jennifer Evans, the Board is taking action to review hiring practices, race relations, promotional practices, anti-discrimination policies, equity employment, diversity, gender issues and officer misconduct (in consultation with the Office of the Independent Police Review Director (OIPRD)) – all with the aim of advancing its commitment to transparency, inclusiveness and accountability to residents of the Region of Peel.

“We are committed to attracting and developing professional and skilled employees that are reflective of our diverse community. This continues to be one of our key areas of focus in our 2017-2019 Strategic Plan. I am proud of the progress we have made over the past five years and welcome any recommendations that may help us further our goal,” said Chief Jennifer Evans.

CCDI is an award-winning social organization. Its mission is to help employers be inclusive, free of prejudice and discrimination – and to generate the awareness, dialogue and action for people to recognize diversity as an asset and not an obstacle. The team of diversity and inclusion experts combine traditional business strategy with consulting, innovative research technology and data analysis with a social purpose to help organizations get business results.

“I commend the Peel Police Board for taking this important first step,” says Michael Bach, CCDI founder and CEO. “Law enforcement agencies fulfill a fundamental role in our society and CCDI is honoured to partner with them to conduct the equity audit. We share their commitment to making the Canadian workforce a better one and building trust in the community.”

Peel Regional Police (PRP) is the third largest municipal police service in Canada with 2,015 uniform and 845 civilian members with a policing population of over 1.4 million.
