Honourary Chief:

Region of Peel Police Services Board Chairman Emil Kolb and Chief of Police Noel P. Catney are pleased to announce the appointment of Toronto Maple Leaf goaltender and Hockey Hall of Fame member Johnny Bower as Honourary Chief of Police.

A formal swearing-in ceremony for Mr. Bower will be convened at Peel Regional Police Headquarters, 7750 Hurontario Street, Brampton, on Saturday, February 1st, at 12:00 p.m.

When informed of the appointment, Mr. Bower expressed great delight by stating, "I am humbled by my appointment to this position, and sincerely hope that I can accomplish what the citizens and the police service expect of me."

Mr. Emil Kolb said of the appointment, "Mr. Bower has proven himself a great citizen and ambassador for Canada, and it's a significant achievement for our Region and police service to have him play a similar role for the Peel Regional Police."

Chief Catney stated, "This is truly a significant event in the history of our organization. Mr. Bower, both professionally and personally, reflects every quality that we, as a service, embrace. His outstanding commitment to the citizens of the Region of Peel has been well-documented through his participation in assisting at numerous charity events, and initiatives to assist those less fortunate. We are extremely pleased and honoured that Mr. Bower has accepted our offer to enhance his level of public service."

35 Years Distinguished Public Service

The Police Services Board and the police service will also recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of Staff Superintendent Daniel Banting, who, on January 2, 2003, completed thirty-five years of dedicated and loyal service to the citizens of the Region of Peel.

Staff Superintendent Banting is the first member of Peel Regional Police to achieve this significant degree of service at his rank.

The event will conclude with an organizational and community celebration on the promotion of six officers to the rank of Sergeant.

Members of the media will have an opportunity to interview Mr. Bower, Staff Superintendent Banting and the newly promoted Sergeant.
