Peel Names Deputy Chief

(BRAMPTON)– Acting Deputy Chief Paul Tetzlaff, a 30 veteran of the Peel Regional Police has been appointed Deputy Chief of Police, says Emil Kolb, Chair, Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board. Mr. Kolb says the appointment culminates a three month search process and is effective as of today’s date.

“The Board, with Chief Mike Metcalf, first took a good hard look at our organizational structure, and then instituted a search for the best person to take over the pivotal role of Deputy Chief. We’re very pleased and excited that Paul proved himself the best qualified and capable candidate,” says Mr. Kolb. “Paul’s appointment puts a key piece of our leadership team in place for years to come.”

Deputy Chief Tetzlaff began his policing career in 1975 as a front line constable. He has worked as an investigator in a number of specialized areas, including Homicide and Fraud. He was promoted to Inspector in 1998, where he held a number of supervisory and administrative positions, including working in the Executive Office and Officer-in-Charge Communications. In 2001, he achieved the Superintendent’s rank, which lead to him being appointed as Officer-in-Charge of 21 Division. Most recently, he became Staff Superintendent in 2005, and has been Acting Deputy Chief – Operations, since January, 2006.

“This is a true honour, and a significant responsibility,” says Deputy Chief Tetzlaff. “I look forward to working with the Board, our Chief, and every member of the service as we meet our mandate of providing a safe and secure environment for all our citizens and visitors.”

Deputy Chief Tetzlaff says his main priority will be to work with Chief M. Metcalf to enhance the ability of the police service to prevent and combat crime, with a particular focus on the violent activities of street gangs. In doing so, Deputy Chief Tetzlaff says it will be vital to collaborate with community stakeholders to develop strategies to address the significant challenges facing some of Peel’s youth.
