New Member Joins Police Service Board

(BRAMPTON)- Mr. Amrik Singh Ahluwalia is the newest member of the Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board, says Mr. Emil Kolb, Chair of the Board. Mr. Ahluwalia, a Brampton resident, was appointed by the provincial government effective February 9, 2011, replacing Ms. Cheryl Jamieson who had concluded a six-year term.

"I'm very pleased to welcome Mr. Ahluwalia to the Board," says Mr. Kolb. "He brings extensive experience in the private sector to his new responsibilities. He also brings great enthusiasm and a track record of community service which will be of assistance to the Board and the police service."

Mr. Ahluwalia says, "It's an honour to have the opportunity to serve in this capacity. I have a great interest in the issues before us, and in the general well-being of the Peel community. I look forward to adding my efforts to that of my colleagues on the Board, as well as that of Chief Metcalf and his staff."

Mr. Kolb says that Mr. Ahluwalia is recently retired from a senior position with Shell Canada after a 29 year career. Mr. Ahluwalia was involved in several charitable organizations in Calgary, and currently volunteers with the Seva Food Bank in Mississauga. He holds a Masters of Engineering from Carleton University and an MBA from McMaster University.

Mr. Kolb says this is also an opportune time to recognize the contributions made by Ms. Cheryl Jamieson. "Cheryl was an outstanding Board member. She was committed, knowledgeable and hard-working. It's worth noting that she not only served the residents of Peel, but also Ontario as President of the Ontario Association of Police Services Board. The entire Board wishes her well in her future endeavours."

The Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board is the governing body for the Peel Regional Police, the second largest municipal police service in Ontario. It is comprised of seven members. Chair Emil Kolb, Councillor Frank Dale and Mayor Susan Fennell are appointed by Regional Council. The three provincial appointees are Mr. Ahluwalia, Mr. Sat Gosal and Mr. Laurie Williamson. The citizen appointee from Regional Council is Ms. Preet Kang, the current Vice-Chair.
