New Appointee to the Police Services Board
(BRAMPTON)– Mr. Laurie Williamson, one of Mississauga’s best known business leaders, is the latest addition to the Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board, says Mr. Emil Kolb, Chair of the Board.
Mr. Kolb says Mr. Williamson is almost as well known for his community work, having devoted countless hours to numerous charities such as being Chair for many years of Peel Partners for a Drug Free Community, supporting Toys for Tots, and fundraising on behalf of the Peel Cancer Society. He was recognized as Mississauga’s citizen of the year in 1995 and was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal in 2002.
“Laurie is a lifelong resident of Mississauga and Peel and has a great appreciation and understanding of our Region,” says Mr. Kolb. “He has an impressive track record in volunteer work and his appointment to the police services board is in many ways a natural progression of his community activities.”
Mr. Kolb says Mr. Williamson was appointed as a provincial appointee effective April 21, 2010, for a three-year term. He replaces Mr. Jim Murray, former Vice-Chair of the Board.
“I would be remiss if I did not take this opportunity to thank Jim for his 12 years of dedicated service,” says Mr. Kolb. “He was instrumental in many key decisions and his contribution was second-to-none.”
Mr. Williamson says he is looking forward to assuming his new responsibilities.
“I’m fortunate in knowing many of our police leaders through charity work I’ve done in the past,” says Mr. Williamson. “However, this is a new role for me, and I’m hoping to contribute in a different way to the well-being of our Region.”
The Peel Regional Police is the second largest municipal police service in Ontario, with 1,895 sworn members and 777 civilian support staff. It provides police services to the cities of Brampton and Mississauga and, under contract, to Pearson International Airport. It is governed by a Board of seven members comprised of three members of Regional Council, three provincial appointees and one citizen appointed by the Regional Council.
