Mississauga Resident Appointed to Police Board

(Brampton) - Mr. Jim Harries, a resident of Mississauga, is the latest appointee to the Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board, says Mr. Emil Kolb, Chair of the Board. Mr. Harries is a citizen appointee made by the Regional Council of Peel.

“It gives me great pleasure to welcome Jim to the Police Services Board,” says Mr. Kolb. “Regional Council went through a very vigorous process to find the best possible candidate for the Board, and it says a great deal about Jim that he was chosen for this appointment.”

Mr. Harries has more then 25 years of business experience, primarily in the financial services industry, including banking, property and casualty insurance and communications. He is currently Vice President, Operations at the Property and Casualty Insurance Compensation Corporation, Canada’s national guarantee fund for P & C Insurance Companies. In the mid-1990s, Mr. Harries worked for the Insurance Bureau of Canada and in that role he was instrumental in persuading provincial governments to adopt graduated licensing for new drivers. His interest in driver safety led him to volunteer for the City of Mississauga’s Road Safety Committee of which he is past Chair.

“It’s an honour to be appointed to the Police Services Board,” says Mr. Harries. “I’m looking forward to contributing to the Board and to the work of the Peel Regional Police in delivering high levels of public safety and service to the community.”

Mr. Kolb says Mr. Harries is replacing Ms. Preet Kang, who was the citizen appointee for the past seven years and ended her tenure as Vice-Chair of the Board.

“It’s very important to make note of Preet’s contribution,” says Mr. Kolb. “She was an outstanding Board member, involved in every facet of what we do. She was universally respected and we wish her well in her future contributions to our community.”

The Peel Police Services Board is the governing body for the Peel Regional Police which provides policing services to the cities of Brampton and Mississauga, and under contract to Pearson International Airport. The Board is comprised of seven members, three appointments from Regional Council, three provincial appointments and one citizen appointee.
