Deputy Chief Ingrid Berkeley-Brown Announces Retirement

Brampton, ON– After 33 ½ years of dedicated service to Peel Regional Police and the residents of Peel Region, Deputy Chief of Police Ingrid Berkeley-Brown has informed Chief Duraiappah and the Board that she will retire from the service effective April 30, 2020.

Deputy Chief Berkeley-Brown was appointed by the Board in 2018 and has had an extremely successful and rewarding career.  She is a well-respected police leader not only in Peel but provincially and nationally.  Deputy Chief Berkeley-Brown began her policing career in 1986 with the Peel Regional Police as a Constable. She has worked in several areas including Uniform Patrol, Community Services, Race and Ethnic Relations Bureau, Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau, Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Bureau, Public Affairs, Neighbourhood Policing Unit, Recruiting, Duty Inspectors' Office, Records Services and Divisional Commander at 21 Division. Deputy Chief Berkeley-Brown was promoted to Sergeant in 2002, Staff Sergeant in 2007, Inspector in 2013 and Superintendent in January 2016 where she was the Officer-In-Charge of 21 Division.

“For the past 33 ½ years I have been extremely fortunate to have been able to live out my dream as a member of the Peel Regional Police,” said Deputy Chief Berkeley-Brown. “It has been an honour and privilege to work with the members of this great organization on behalf of the diverse communities that make up Peel Region.”

Peel Police Services Board Chair Ron Chatha expressed his appreciation and gratitude to Deputy Chief Berkeley-Brown for her many years of service to the community.  “Deputy Chief Berkeley-Brown has had a long and successful career. She should be as proud of her career as the Board is for having had the pleasure to work so closely with an officer whose commitment to the community was always her first priority. On behalf of the Board, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for Deputy Berkeley-Brown’s invaluable contribution to policing and wish her all the best in her retirement.”

Peel Regional Police (PRP) is the third largest municipal police service in Canada with over 2,000 uniform and over 800 civilian members with a policing population of over 1.4 million.
