Deputy Chief Assumes New Role

(BRAMPTON)– March 10, 2008) - Effective today, Deputy Chief Paul Tetzlaff, a 32 year veteran of the Peel Regional Police will be assuming responsibilities previously held by the Chief Administrative Officer of the Peel Regional Police, says Emil Kolb, Chair, Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board. Mr. Kolb says that during the period of Deputy Chief Tetzlaff’s tenure, the position will be known as Deputy Chief - Administrative Services.

“Our key resource is our people. The CAO position is pivotal in ensuring we attract, mentor and properly motivate individuals who will ensure the success of the Peel Regional Police for years to come,” says Mr. Kolb. “Deputy Chief Tetzlaff has a demonstrated skill in all these areas, as well as having a comprehensive knowledge of our organization. He is a well-respected and experienced leader who can both build on our existing strengths and foster change where it is needed.”

Mr. Kolb says the Board’s appointment of Deputy Chief Tetzlaff was made with the goal of choosing the person with the right blend of experience and skills to tackle the impact of significant organizational restructuring while also managing key strategic initiatives.

Deputy Chief Tetzlaff began his policing career in 1975 as a front line constable. He has worked as an investigator in a number of specialized areas, including Homicide and Fraud. He was promoted to Inspector in 1998, where he held a number of supervisory and administrative positions, including working in the Executive Office and Officer-in-Charge Communications. In 2001, he achieved the Superintendent’s rank, which led to him being appointed as Officer-in-Charge of 21 Division. Most recently, he became Staff Superintendent in 2005, and then Deputy Chief since January, 2006.

“I very much appreciate the Board’s confidence in me, and I look forward to a set of new challenges,” says Deputy Chief Tetzlaff. “Administrative Services, whether it’s Fleet, Business Services, Finance or Human Resources, forms the backbone of our police service. We have talented and dedicated individuals in these areas, and it will be a pleasure to be working more directly with them.”

Mr. Kolb says that Deputy Chief Tetzlaff’s transfer creates a vacancy at the Deputy Chief - Operations Support position. The Board, at its February meeting, also approved making the Acting Deputy Chief - Field Operations a full time position. Mr. Kolb says an internal search for both Deputy Chief positions will commence immediately.

Peel Regional Police is the second largest municipal police service in Ontario, comprised of 1739 uniform members and 677 civilians.
