connect2ENDviolence Week in Peel
(BRAMPTON)– Peel Regional Council has proclaimed June 1 to 7, 2009 as connect2ENDviolence Week in Peel.
“We want to raise awareness of this vital initiative,” says Frank Dale, Regional Councillor and connect2ENDviolence Co-Chair. “The proclamation acknowledges the progress we’ve made so far in connecting with the community, but there is still much to do and many more connections to make.”
The connect2ENDviolence initiative is a joint effort by the Region of Peel and Peel Regional Police, and forms part of a five-point plan to reduce crime in Peel. The plan leverages modern communication tools to connect people, ideas and the community to prevent violence and foster a safe and secure environment.
As part of the initiative, a website, www.connect2ENDviolence.ca, was recently launched to provide a hub and focal point for community interaction on crime and crime prevention.
“With more than 1,500 visitors in one week, I’d say that’s a pretty successful launch and demonstrates how valuable this site is as a community resource,” says Gael Miles, Regional Councillor and connect2ENDviolence Co-Chair. “I encourage the community to visit this dynamic website often to have their voice heard, gather new ideas and engage in dialogue on the issues.”
The Peel Police Services Board established the connect2ENDviolence Steering Committee, which is comprised of members from Health Services at the Region of Peel, Peel Regional Police, the Peel District School Board, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, and the Police Services Board. The Steering Committee is co-chaired by Regional Councillor Frank Dale and Regional Councillor Gael Miles.
