Chief Selected for Peel Regional Police - Council Ceremony
(BRAMPTON) - Deputy Chief Jennifer Evans has been selected by the Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board to become the next Chief of Police for the Peel Regional Police, says Emil Kolb, Chair of the Board.
Mr. Kolb says the Board was deeply impressed by the depth of knowledge and dedication to the Peel Regional Police and policing itself demonstrated by all candidates. Mr. Kolb says the determining factor was selecting the right individual given the current opportunities and challenges before the police service. He says ultimately Deputy Chief Evans was the Board's unanimous choice.
"This is an exciting time for our police service and our community," says Mr. Kolb. "The Board strongly believes that Chief Designate Evans has the breadth of experience, the enthusiasm and most importantly, the right vision to lead our police service during these challenging times."
Mr. Kolb says Chief Designate Evans will be sworn in as the sixth Chief in the history of the Peel Regional Police in early October, at which time she will formally assume her duties.
"This is a great honour – and an incredible responsibility," says Chief Designate Evans. "I'm very fortunate in having a great police service with me, at every rank and including all members, civilian and uniform. I'm also following Chief Metcalf who did an extraordinary job in moving us forward as an organization. My job is to build on all he accomplished and keep us in the forefront of policing in Canada."
Chief Designate Evans is a 29 year veteran of the Peel Regional Police.
The Peel Regional Police is the second largest municipal police service in Ontario. It provides police services to the cities of Brampton and Mississauga, and under contract, to the Greater Toronto Airport Authority.
