Chief of Police Agrees to Stay On

(BRAMPTON)– Chief Michael Metcalf has agreed to a two-year extension to his contract that will keep him at the helm of the Peel Regional Police until early 2013, says Emil Kolb, Chair, Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board. The decision came during the March Board meeting.

"This is excellent news for the members of the Peel Regional Police and for the entire Peel Community”, says Mr. Kolb. “Chief Metcalf is a respected police leader and has brought about significant positive change during his tenure."

Mr. Kolb says Chief Metcalf’s introduction of initiatives such as Risk Management and Organizational Wellness have added to Peel Regional Police’s reputation as one of the most progressive and professional police services in Canada.

“Chief Metcalf, in my view, epitomizes what we expect from our police service and our police staff,” says Mr. Kolb. “He is professional, ethical and dedicated to public service. We’re very fortunate to have him agree to remain as Chief.”

Chief Metcalf says: “I want to thank Mr. Kolb and the members of the Board for their confidence in my leadership. I also want to thank the members of the police service for their hard work and their continued commitment to providing the best level of service we can to the Peel community. They are the ones who make my job worthwhile and why I decided to remain.”

Chief Metcalf is the fifth Chief of Police in the history of the Peel Regional Police and was first appointed January 1, 2006. The Peel Regional Police is the second largest municipal police service in Ontario, with a total complement of 2,702.
