Brampton Resident Joins Police Services Board

(BRAMPTON) - Baljit Gosal, a businessman in the Region of Peel, is the newest addition to the Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board. Mr. Gosal was appointed as a provincial representative to the Board effective April 3, 2002. He replaces Mr. Ron Webb, a Brampton lawyer, whose term expired in January, 2002.

"I'm very pleased to join the Police Services Board," says Mr. Gosal. "I believe the police play a vital role in creating the kind of community we all want, and I'm glad to have the opportunity to assist in those efforts."

Mr. Gosal has long been an active member in the Brampton Community. He has served as a Director of the Brampton YMCA Regional Council, and is a member of the City of Brampton Property Standards Committee. In addition, Mr. Gosal is past Treasurer and founding member of the Ontario Federation of Sports and Cultural Organization, Director, and past Secretary and Treasurer of the Ontario Khalsa Darbar Sports and Cultural Centre, and was a member of the Ontario Film Review Board.

"I look forward to working with Mr. Gosal," says Mr. Emil Kolb, Chair of the Board, and Chairman of the Region of Peel. "I'm confident his strong community involvement will assist him with his new responsibilities."

Born in Punjab, India, Mr. Gosal moved to Canada in 1981. A university graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree, he joined McDonald Douglas Canada in 1984, working in the production control department. In 1994, he joined the Prudential Insurance Company and in 1996 became associated with London Life. He currently operates a successful business as a Financial Security Advisor in the Region of Peel.

The Peel Police Services Board is comprised of seven members, three appointed by the provincial government, three by the Region of Peel Council, and a citizen appointment made by Regional Council. It governs and acts as the employer for the Peel Regional Police, the second largest municipal police service in Ontario, with almost 2,000 employees.
