Brampton - The Peel Police Services Board is pleased to announce the return of Ahmad Attia as a member of the Board, effective August 2, 2023, for a one-year term.

Ahmad Attia brings with him a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to human rights and public service. Ahmad's commitment to advancing human rights causes both globally and within Canada has been a driving force behind the establishment of his company, Incisive Strategy, a public relations and government affairs firm. Ahmad serves on the board of Human Rights Watch Canada and the board of the Muslim Council of Peel. This experience drove him to establish Incisive Strategy, a public relations and government affairs firm dedicated to seeking justice for those wrongfully imprisoned and addressing human rights violations worldwide.

Ahmad has previously served on the Peel Police Services Board from 2019 to 2023, with notable achievements during his tenure. He demonstrated leadership as the Chair of the Board from 2021 to 2022 and as Vice-Chair in 2020-21 and 2022-23. As the Chair of the Peel Police Services Board, Ahmad supported the Chief of Police during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, implementing necessary measures to address the unique circumstances and ensure public safety throughout the crisis. As a Board member, Ahmad demonstrated unwavering commitment to addressing systemic racism within policing through a human rights framework. His work in helping to establish the Board's Governance and Human Rights Committee has driven positive change within the police service and strengthened Board governance. He has also contributed to research on policing and governance through his involvement in a study conducted by the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto.

Ahmad also played a vital role as the Board lead on the Human Rights project with the Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC) and the police service, fostering meaningful collaboration and advancing human rights initiatives. His dedication to human rights and police governance has significantly contributed to the progress and reform achieved within Peel Regional Police over the past four years. His collaborative efforts with the Chief and the Board have resulted in numerous positive changes, enhancing accountability, inclusivity, and public trust.

The Province of Ontario's decision to appoint Ahmad Attia reflects his contributions to the work of the Board and unwavering commitment to public service and human rights. The appointment also seeks to provide stability and institutional knowledge, recognizing the significant accomplishments of the Board and Police Service during Ahmad's previous tenure.

As Ahmad returns to the Board, he stated, "I am deeply honored to serve once again on the Peel Police Services Board. It is a privilege to work alongside my dedicated colleagues, community partners, and the police service to ensure a safer and more inclusive Peel region. Together, we will continue our shared vision of viewing police governance through a human rights lens, continue to advance policing to be more innovative, and foster positive change in community policing."
