New Appointee to the Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board
(BRAMPTON)– Mr. Satwinder Singh Gosal, a Mississauga-based corporate lawyer, is the latest addition to the Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board, says Mr. Emil Kolb, Chair of the Board.
Mr. Kolb says Mr. Gosal was appointed as a provincial appointee, effective September 3, 2008, replacing Mr. Ralph Hunter, whose tenure on the Board ended in July 2008.
“It’s a great pleasure to welcome Mr. Gosal to the Board,” says Mr. Kolb. “His community involvement will make him a valuable asset and assist us as we face some significant challenges in the future.”
Mr. Kolb went on to say, “It’s also an appropriate time to recognize Mr. Hunter’s outstanding contribution. He served as Vice-Chair for several years and, among other achievements, was instrumental in leading our collective bargaining processes to satisfactory conclusions. He leaves with our gratitude for a job extremely well-done.”
Mr. Gosal says, “It’s a great honour for me to be appointed to the Board. I know of the very high profile the Peel Regional Police have, not just locally, but nationally, and I’m enthused about the prospect of adding my efforts and experience to the tasks ahead.”
Mr. Gosal was called to the Ontario Bar in 1990, and is currently a partner with the law firm Racioppo Zuber Coetzee Dionne, based in Mississauga, where he practices real estate and corporate-commercial law. Among other community activities, he is a past director and executive member of the Peel Multicultural Council, past chair of the PMC Social Housing Project and a trustee of the Carassauga Multicultural Festival. Mr. Gosal is a frequent guest presenter on education and race-relations issues, including periodic appearances on CBC Radio.
The Peel Regional Police is the second largest municipal police service in Ontario, with 1,829 sworn members and 754 civilian support staff. It provides police services to the cities of Brampton and Mississauga and, under contract, to Pearson International Airport. It is governed by a Board of seven members comprised of three members of Regional Council, three provincial appointees and one citizen appointed by the Regional Council.
