Experience Leads the Way

(BRAMPTON)– The Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board opted for experience when it re-elected Emil Kolb, Regional Chairman of Peel, as Chair of the Board at its meeting of January 23, 2009. Joining him is the second longest tenured Board member, Mr. Jim Murray, who was re-elected as Vice-Chair.

“I truly appreciate the support and trust of my colleagues,” says Mr. Kolb. “This is a very dedicated and professional group of people who work well with our Chief and his management team. It’s my belief that we are well placed to face the challenges of the coming year.”

Mr. Murray, a well-known businessman who has made community involvement a second career, has served on the Board for over a decade having first been appointed in 1997.

“I am even more enthusiastic today then ever before about the degree of commitment and professionalism that exists throughout the police service,” says Mr. Murray. “It’s a true team effort from the Board right through to our newest recruit or civilian hire. Our primary goal is to maintain a safe and secure environment for everyone in this Region.”

Mr. Kolb says, “In addition to a great partnership with our community, I think it’s also important to acknowledge the strong support of our Regional Council. They understand the issues and have worked with the Board and Chief Metcalf to respond proactively to the priorities we have identified. They are very much part of the ‘team effort’ in this Region.”

The Board consists of seven members. Mr. Kolb is an appointee of the Regional Council of Peel as is Councillor Frank Dale from Mississauga and Mayor of Brampton, Susan Fennell. The provincial appointees are Mr.Murray, Ms. Cheryl Jamieson and Mr. Sat Gosal. The remaining member of the Board is a member of the public appointed by Regional Council. Ms. Preet Kang has served in this role for six years.
