Connecting with the Community to End Violence

(BRAMPTON)– The community can now take a more active role in identifying solutions that reduce or eliminate violence.

connect2ENDviolence.ca, a new website launched on April 14 will be the hub for community discussion on violence and violence prevention. The site opens the door to two-way dialogue with the community so that together we can connect problems with solutions, put ideas into action and foster safer neighbourhoods.

"Through this website, the community will have a direct influence on issues related to violence, crime and prevention measures," says Gael Miles, Co-Chair of the Steering Committee and spokesperson for the connect2ENDviolence Initiative. "Residents can ask us questions, give us suggestions and get connected to others who want to make a difference."

The idea for a website came from the desire to engage the community in discussions about violence and violence prevention, and it is part of a five-point plan developed by the Peel Police Services Board to reduce crime in Peel.

"We encourage residents of all ages and backgrounds to visit the website and to voice their opinions", says Frank Dale, Co-Chair of the Steering Committee and spokesperson for the connect2ENDviolence Initiative. That is the only way to help us understand what’s happening in Peel and what we need to do to make a positive change."

Emil Kolb, Regional Chair and Chair of the Peel Police Services Board says: "The community is one of our strongest resources in combating violence, and as a community, we need to stand together and send the message that violence is unacceptable. By working together, we will make Peel a safer place to live and work."

The development of the site was made possible by the connect2ENDviolence Steering Committee, which is comprised of members from Peel Police, Peel Public Health staff, the Peel District School Board, the Dufferin-Peel District Catholic School Board and the Police Services Board.

Visit www.connect2ENDviolence.ca often and get involved. It will make a difference.
